MEDICAL MARIJUANA BENEFIT CONCERT AT TOBACCO ROAD HOSTED BY PLOPPY PALACE PRODUCTIONS AND THE WALLFLOWER GALLERY

On Saturday, July 24, Ploppy Palace Productions, The Wallflower Gallery and Tobacco Road will be hosting a concert to raise funds for Floridians For Medical Rights’ medical marijuana campaign. As part of this two stage extravaganza, some of South Florida’s top bands and community activists will join together for patients’ and physicians’ right to use medical cannabis. Earth Citizens, The Tribe, The Butterclub, Spoonbeach, Boxelder, The Oski Foundation and The Dharma Bomb will be performing. Toni Leeman - Founder of the Coalition Advocating Medical Marijuana will be speaking about the voter initiative to allow physicians to prescribe marijuana for patients in need. Other speakers will include medical marijuana patient - Elvy Musikka, a representative from the American Civil Liberties Union and members of the Hemp Awareness Council at the University of Miami.

The event will work to raise funds and awareness for the medical marijuana campaign and patients’ rights. Last month, the Florida Supreme Court upheld a person's right to use medical necessity as a defense to marijuana charges. Marijuana has proven therapeutically useful in treating numerous medical conditions including muscle spasticity, arthritis, and the nausea related to AIDS and cancer chemotherapy. For physician-certified medicinal users and their caregivers this initiative will provide protection from legal prosecution. About 500,000 Florida registered voters need to sign the petition in order for the electorate to decide on the issue in the next election. This process is similar to the initiatives passed in five states during the recent election that allowed doctors to prescribe cannabis to patients.

Members of the Hemp Awareness Council of the University of Miami will be on hand to assist in the petition drive on Saturday, July 24 from 9:00 p.m. – 3:00 a.m. at Tobacco Road, 626 South Miami Ave., Brickell – 305-374-1198. Admission is $7. For more information, please call Toni at C.A.M.M. 954-568-7175 or The Wallflower Gallery at 305-579-0069.
