Notes From the PRESIDENT
(Top)
We are getting some great feedback and compliments on the
many and varied projects that DrugSense is beginning to
offer to its members but I have always had the opinion that
there is no such thing as too much in the way of verbal
support, ideas, and encouragement.
|
Why not take a few minutes to send a quick note of thanks
for any of the DrugSense services or features you find
useful in your efforts to advance the principles of reform?
|
For example
Matt Elrod Is the MAP/DrugSense
WebMaster Extraordinaire
Tom Hawkins is the National
Coordinator and handle a wide array of responsibilities from
compiling the newsletter and FOCUS Alerts to welcoming
new members.
Kiril Dubrovsky is our DrugNews
editor who edits and distributes our excellent daily DrugNews
Digest synopses as well as the MAPNews archive and
DrugNews recent news collection.
|
Our other board members and advisors include Robert Field,
Tom O'Connell, Kendra Wright, and Kevin Zeese.
|
I'm very proud to be associated with the talented and
knowledgeable management team that we have assembled
and I encourage you to drop a note of encouragement to all
of these people by visiting The MAP web page Guest book
at http://www.mapinc.org/guests.htm
where you can voice your views for all visitors to see.
Alternately you can send a private note of thanks to any or
all of these individuals for the tireless efforts that have
brought us to where we are today.

Here's a good one sent in response to the firing of school
teacher Donna Cockrel...
|
Subj: | SENT - Donna Cockrel DARES to think for herself
|
---|
|
Dear Editor:
|
Donna Cockrel was fired for bringing real world politics into
her fifth grade classroom. She gave her kids ringside seats
to a political circus, and set a dramatic example for them.
Hopefully, the seeds she's planted will grow, and her kids will
learn how to separate the rope from the dope, and be able to
see how abstract social battles are fought over borders,
one idea at a time. And often, by the bravest of us all.

Friends
|
Please be advised that my new E-mail address is
I will keep the CompuServe account
open for awhile but am phasing CompuServe out of my life
(and good riddance) . Please update your records. Thanks.
|
For any fellow sufferers using AOL or CompuServe I highly
recommend the somewhat painful change to Eudora PRO.
It's easily worth the effort.

Encouraging news on DrugSense and MAP WWW status...
|
|
WOW Check out the site Matt found!!! It demonstrates that
DrugSense and MAP is being found by Yahoo (one of THE
search engine biggies) as a drug info site and we are
beginning to play ball with the big boys. DrugSense is
listed right under Drug Watch Int'l as the NUMBER TWO
Listing under
Top: | Health:Pharmacology:Drugs: Drug Policy:Organizations!!
|
---|
|
DRC and Lindesmith are also listed and MAP is listed at
about number seven. More than half of the top ten are reform
pages!! and 4 of them are US :)
|
Double WOW!!!

Med MJ book hits the store shelves...
|
Subj: | Marijuana: Not Guilty as Charged - Book
|
---|
|
Hey crew,
|
David Ford's book Marijuana: Not Guilty as Charged has hit
the shelves. Dave (Sonoma resident now, formerly lived in
Hawaii where he once had a television show) speaks as a
former cancer patient who knows first hand the help
marijuana offers.
|
The book is very layperson-friendly, sincere, and delivers a
lot of information on the lousy politics of prohibition and the
human costs in a warm, easy-to-read, narrative style.
|
Dave's a great guy and his book can reach people who are
not particularly political or who don't want to read a dense
tome. My mom's reading it right now and she loves it.
|
Let's make our local book stores aware of it if they are not
already.

|
PS Dave's a disarming speaker too -- got an opportunity?

|
Subj: | LTE Sent Sydney Morning Herald - Aussie Wimps
|
---|
|
sent to Sydney Morning Herald
|
re: Why the US won't let Australia reform its drug laws.
|
Why do the Australians bother discussing drug policy when
they know full well that the DEA must approve any
changes?
|
The Australian leaders should admit that they are a bunch of
spineless wimps who let United States dictate their drug
policy and quit wasting time with meaningless debates which
can never be implemented into real world policy without the
approval of Bob Gelbard or some other DEA "diplomatic
doberman."
|
As far as the United States is concerned Australia is just
another "narco republic" to be dealt with like an ugly
stepchild.
|
Aussies better get used to the heel of the DEA boot on their
necks because their leaders haven't got the nerve to stick up
for Australia's best interests. Yellow coward dogs is what we
call 'em where I come from. Nay, I am too kind, traitor is the
right word.
|
Remember this as Australia sees its hopes and dreams
dashed to flinders behind a brain dead drug war that has
totally failed in the country that is shoving it down their
throats.

Subj: | SENT - Regulation, not Prohibition
|
---|
|
The New Zealand Drug Foundation has come to the same
conclusion about cannabis that every major US study has --
declaring war on it does more harm than good.
|
Our recent battle against our tobacco industry demonstrates
the power of government to regulate a legal industry. The
governments of Burma, Colombia, and Mexico illustrate the
influence organized crime can have when they control the
drug trade. Since marijuana is relatively benign, why give
this business to them?
|
Another approach is needed, and the NZDF has suggested a
number of possibilities. Will New Zealanders be able to
discuss them rationally, as we have been unable to do in
America?
